The Longtail Rest Area at Milepost 4

The Longtail Rest Area at Milepost 4

Almost four miles from Saylor Park you will find the first rest stop on the Ghost Town Trail. The Longtail Rest Area is named for Long-tailed Salamanders that inhabit the nearby stream channel.

The channel is part of the ancient stream bed of Blacklick Creek that is separated from the main stream channel. While Blacklick Creek is polluted from acid mine drainage the water quality in the side channel is good enough to support a population of colorful Long-tailed Salamanders.
