Our trail crew has been applying a thin layer of trail dust to portions of the Hoodlebug Trail to smooth out the trail surface. This view is taken just south of Homer City.
We came across this beautiful Gray Fox that had unfortunately been struck by a car on one of our local roads. Pennsylvania has both Red and Gray foxes. The gray can climb trees--it is the only member of the canine family with this ability. Red and gray foxes are small, agile carnivores belonging to the same family (Canidae) as the dog, coyote and wolf. Both red and gray foxes are found throughout Pennsylvania. They are intelligent predators with extremely sharp senses of sight, smell and hearing (a fox can hear a mouse squeal at about 150 feet). They can live for 10 - 12 years in the wild.
