The year 2017 marks the 50th year since the establishment of Indiana County Parks & Trails. On July 7, 1967 the Indiana County Commissioners authorized what was then known as the Indiana County Parks & Recreation Commission.
As the wind sways the branches of a hemlock twig over hanging the water in a quiet cove of Hemlock Lake it gradually adds a layer of ice with each pass.
If you grew up in a coal town you probably had a red dog road nearby or even a driveway made from the leftover waste of a nearby coal mine. The material, left over from the waste coal piles, (known in this area as bony piles) made an excellent road material.
This photo was taken on Aultman's Run Road, one of the best red dog roads remaining in Indiana County.
