This ice fountain sculpture was caused by water slowly freezing and building up from the end of a drain pipe.
You will find this colorful moss at the 4.5 mile mark of the Ghost Town Trail in the trail section between Saylor Park and Heshbon.
To keep Pittsburgh from flooding the Army Corps of Engineers constructed several flood control dams in western PA, including the Conemaugh Dam built in 1952. During flooding events several thousand acres of Indiana County are flooded while water is held back to protect the city.
One area that gets flooded is the Blairsville Riverfront Trail, shown here in this photo taken on December 22, 2016. After the water recedes our crew will be out clearing debris from the trail.
