This pavilion at the Buttermilk Falls Nautral Area is available frre of charge. In addition to the pavilion there is a charcoal grill (no electric). A handicapped accessible restroom is located near here. The location was a former patio area that Fred McFeely used to entertain guests to his cottage at the falls. A young Freddie Rogers (Mr. McFeely's famous grandson) also spent time here.
Besides its scenic waterfall the Buttermilk Falls Natural Area is also known as the home of some very large trees, especially the Beech trees that are found here.
The common name of the Milk Snake is derived from the old notion that these snakes, often seen around barn areas, somehow stole milk from cows. Milk snakes are non-venomous and are known for the striking patterns on their bodies, typically in the red color phase seen here. We often find then under pieces of shale rock.
