Park Rambles - Indiana County Parks & Trails

The Four-teod Salamander is the smallest salamander found in Pennsylvania. Rarely reaching more the three inches this salamander is named for having only four toes on its hind feet - most salamanders have five toes on their hind feet.

Although the temperature was only 36 degrees when this one was found it was under a rock very near a spring, seep area. This the time of year when the female Four-toed Salamanders migrate to these type of areas to lay their eggs.
