This photo was taken in February 2013 during the famous Polar Vortex that descended on the east coast. The waters of the falls came to an almost complete standstill yet even in this cold weather the faint sound of water trickling through the falls could be heard.
The impressive stone arches of the 1907 Bow Ridge Bridge tower over the Conemaugh River at the Tunnleview Historic Site. The bridge is no longer used for railroad purposes but is used to provide access to a hydro-electric plant located on the other side of the river.
Hemlock Lake is a 62-acre lake located in Indiana County's northeast corner. The lake serves as the centerpiece of this 205 acre park leased to Indiana County by the PA Fish & Boat Commission. The PF&BC refers to the lake as Straight Run Lake, after the small stream that feeds the lake. The County chose to name the park Hemlock Lake Park in recognition of the County's Christmas tree industry and for the numerous hemlock trees that surround the lakefront.
