These grape hyacinths were planted by the former residents of Old Smicksburg. While their houses are gone, removed for a flood control project in the 1940s, the flowers that graced the town lots remain.
The green pathways at Old Smicksburg Park are an inviting place to take a walk in early spring.
Mid-April is not only the start of trout season but the time of year when the Trout Lily blooms. The wildflower is named for the pattern of the leaves which resembles a trout. You will notice in them in damp woods and swampy areas. Not all of the plants flower each year so there will be many more leaves on the ground than there are flowers blooming.
