Until the leaves remain off the trees the brick chimney of the former lime kiln near Old Smicksburg Park is visible. The lime kiln operated here in the early 1930s and was used to heat limestone rocks to very high temperatures to produce lime for nearby agricultural fields. The limestone was quarried from a vein of rock in the hillside above the kiln. The stream in the foreground is Little Mahoning Creek. Posted May 2, 2015.
