Lizards and Skinks do live in Indiana County, although they are rarely seen. This is the Five-lined Skink; the lizard that is known to occur in Indiana County is the Eastern Fence Lizard. Skinks forage for food under rocks and in leaf litter, one reason why they are so seldom seen. The one in the photo has lost a portion of its tail. Skinks are known to shed their tails to avoid being caught by a predator. The blue tail end in this juvenile is thought to aid in distracting predators away from their more vulnerable body.
The extension of the Ghost Town Trail that follows the route of the former Cambria & Indiana Railroad grade is known as the C&I Extension. This includes four miles of the existing Rexis Branch of the GTT as well as the new 8-mile extension.
A new 8-mile section has been added to the Ghost Town Trail. The warm October 2017 weather has given many trail users the chance to try the new section out.
