At the Kinter Farm near Home, PA it won't be long before the maple sugar season will be here. Each year in March the Kinter Family and friends hosts a Maple Sugarng Program at their farm as part of our Friends of the Parks series. It's a great way to see the entire maple sugar process and have the chance to purchase some Indiana County maple syrup and other maple products.
At the Harmon Covered Bridge a log book is left for visitors to log in their comments and tell us where they came from. We have had visitors from quite a few different states including all the way from California, Arkansas and Florida.
All that rermains of the Salem Lutheran Church at this location at Old Smicksburg Park are the entrance steps. As was the custom back then the men sat on one side of the church while the women sat on the other side. This was the second church built on this lot, being constructed in 1899. The church was torn down in 1944 and some wood was used in the construction of the new church on Clarion Street in Smicksburg. The church had to be torn down when the federal government condemned the property for flood control purposes.
