On a chilly October day these riders were getting ready to head out on the Ghost Town Trail. The fat tire bike used by the one rider is good for rough terrain and for riding in snow.
Winter snow always bring out the stony features of the Eliza Furnace along the Ghost Town Trail. The small village of Rexis in Indiana County is located to the left of the photo.
The tall bellflower (Campanula americana) graces the edges of the Ghost Town Trail. Although most flower guidebooks note that the plant grows in rich moist soil these ones were growing at the edge of the trail in rocky soil. Moisture from a nearby ditch must be enough to allow them to survive here.
