The Wolf Spider is the only spider that carriers its eggs in a round silken globe attached to her abdomen. After a gestation period of 9 to 27 days which varies depending on the temperature, the eggs hatch and the infant spiders move onto the mother's back until they are old enough to hunt on their own. Photographed at Blue Spruce Park, hiding under a rock along a gas well access road.
This Red Spotted Purple Butterfly stopped along the edge of a small stream for a drink of water when we photographed it.
Pseudocolus is a genus of fungi in the stinkhorn family. The fruit bodies have three or four simple arms that are initially joined at the tip, but often break apart. The tips of the arms are covered with a slimy, foul-smelling gleba, which attracts insects that help disperse the spores. Found at Buttermilk Falls Nautral Area.
