A fragrant plant that is not near as common as it once was. It prefers acidic soil and often grows in very limited clumps where it is found. Does not transplant well and should not be picked or moved.
Some people consider Ramps (wild leeks) to be a spring tonic while others find them a little too strong for their taste, either way they are now growing in many areas of the county. The rule for ramp picking is to pick lightly and always leave more than enough to sustain the planting for future.
A large number of attendees were present for the program on Woodland Indians presented by Dr. Bob Millward held at the Blue Spruce Park Lodge. Through demonstrations and artifacts Dr. Millward offered a highly entertaining look at the life of the first people to inhabit our area.
