Tiny Four-toed Salamanders will keep watch over their eggs until they hatch. They will also tend to the eggs of other Four-toed Salamanders that lay eggs in communal nests. The preferred nest habitat is a sphagnum moss hummock where the eggs wlll be protected and kept moist. After hatching the young larvae fall to the water below and begin their life in the wetland pool.
