Mum plantings add some color to the Blue Spruce Park Lakeside Center during the fall season.
The seeds of Jack-in-the-Pulpit are a bright red color. Technically the seeds are known as drupes, the seed is contained inside a fleshy outer cover.
Queensnakes inhabit the edges of streams and creeks. They are non-venemous and feed mainly on crayfish. Sometimes they are observed in the daytime hanging on bushes and tree limbs overhanging a stream. Generally, though, we find them under cover rocks close to the stream edge. They are sometimes confused with Garter Snakes but the pattern on their belly is unmistakeable.
