Iron bridges are disappearing fast throughout Pennsylvania and in some ways are becoming rarer than covered bridges. This iron bridge is located in the small village of Red Mill along the Ghost Town Trail. The bridge is closed to traffic. The bridge was manufactured in 1895 by the Variety Iron Works from Ohio. It's a ninety foot long bridge that was assembled in parts like a erector set.
The arrowhead is a member of the water plantain group. They are known for their spiky lance-like leaves. The plant does flower with white flowers in whorls of three petals. Arrowhead grows along edges of ponds and lakes and in other moist places, even ditches.
If you enjoy geology and looking at geologic features the Ghost Town Trail is a good place to check out. The trail slices through the Chestnut and Laurel Ridges of Indiana and Cambria County, PA.
