By late winter white-tailed deer begin to lose their antlers in a process known as shedding. In this case, the deer died before the antlers were shed and remain attached.
By early February the skunk cabbage in the swamps are showing signs of development and flowering. The tiny yellow flowers inside the hood of the skunk cabbage attract early season pollinators.
