The ripening seeds of the Jack in the Pulpit means that summer is winding down. The seeds are technically known as drupes, a fleshy outer layer with the seeds inside.
This photo from the Denise Dusza Weber Collection provides an early view of Vintondale, PA. Taken in the early 1900s the photo shows the area in the background where Vintondale's coke ovens were being constructed. At the foot of the hill is where the Ghost Town Trail passes through this area today.
Route 56 crosses over the Ghost Town Trail about halfway between Dilltown and Heshbon. This photo was taken from the Route 56 bridge which spans Blacklick Creek. Just downstream of here is where the Buena Vista Furnace is located.
