This aerial view of Blue Spruce Park outlines the park boundary in yellow. All of the pink lines on the map are hiking trails that weave throughout the park; adding up all of the lines and you would have about 6 miles of hiking trails. The light green areas are sections of the park that our excellent maintenance crew mows.
No matter the time of year a beaver's work is never done. Snow outlines the beaver dam at this location near the Ghost Town Trail. Should a break occur in the dam the beavers will be fast at work to do the repairs. The water in this beaver pond is acidic since most of the water comes from the drainage of a former coal mine.
Our 2017 winter weather has not been quite cold enough for Buttermilk Falls to ice over as it appears here, but if we have consistently cold weather in the next few weeks this is what you might see.
