Each year the Indiana County Envirothon is held at Blue Spruce Park. The event is sponsored by the Indiana County Conservation District and offers a competition between county high schools to test their knowledge of various environmental topics. At this station the students had to estimate the board foot of timber found in this tree.

Today this location is a peaceful spot along the Ghost Town Trail near Heshbon but in July 1982 it was the scene of one of our county's most tragic incidents. On that fateful day four children lost their lives in the swirling waters of Blacklick Creek while trying to save each other.
