The Milk Snake is a non-venenous snake that is found throughout Indiana County. They are known for their colorful blotches and pattern. The color can vary from red, tan, grey or brown with a Y or V-shaped mark on their heads. They will put up a little bit of a fight when encountered and will often coil into a ball and rattle their tails. They are a strikingly patterned snake that feed on mice, voles and other small mammals. Contrary to their name they do not drink milk from cows although they are often found in old barns.
Some scenes from the 2014 maple sugaring program at the Alan Kinter Farm near the Kintersburg Covered Bridge. This is a program that we always look forward to because when it's sugar season we know spring is near.
At the Kinter Farm near Home, PA it won't be long before the maple sugar season will be here. Each year in March the Kinter Family and friends hosts a Maple Sugarng Program at their farm as part of our Friends of the Parks series. It's a great way to see the entire maple sugar process and have the chance to purchase some Indiana County maple syrup and other maple products.
