The massing of Spotted Salamanders in vernal pools is known as a 'Salamander Congress'. This congress only occurs on a few nights each year in early spring after a rain on the first warm night of early spring. The males group together in these masses while the females generally sit off to the side waiting for their suitors.
The Spring Beauty is a small wildflower that carpets the forest floor in early spring. On a sunny day these tiny wildflowers casts a large shadow.
You will find these ice stalagmites at the Bow Tunnel, near Tunnelview Historic Site. They are formed by water dripping from the roof of the abandoned railroad tunnel on to the tunnel floor. During cold temperatures they get a little higher each day.
