You won;t find Pitcher Plants at any of our Indiana County Parks but on a short drive to nearby Westmoreland or northern Somerset County you will find them growing in boggy areas of the Gallitzen State Forest. These plants use nectar to lure insects into the tube shaped leaves, where downward pointing hairs prevent them from escaping from a deadly mixture of rainwater and the plant's digestive juices.
An October day of variable weather: clouds, rain, ice pellets and just as the sun set a last break of sunshine to highlight the hills over Blue Spruce Park.
