The Two Lick Creek Water Trail is a 13-mile long trip from Waterworks Conservation Area to the most southern take-out at the juncture of Two lick and Blacklick Creeks. At the low head dam near the Homer City Generating Station kayakers are required to portage around the dam. This interpretive sign at the Waterworks Conservation Area contains a map of the route.
As Two Lick Creek's water quality has improved over the past decades the improvement is documented by the increase in aquatic life found there. At this children's program we explored the stream bed looking for signs of invertebrate life. Other studies have shown that the stream now supports a reproducing brown trout population, a hopeful sign of the continuing improvements to water quality in the Two Lick Creek watershed.
Kayakers prepare to launch at the Two Lick Creek launch area at the Waterworks Conservation Area. The orange warning sign in the right of the photo advises kayakers that a low head dam is located 7 miles downstream of the site - never attempt to run a low head dam.
