January 11th is the birth date of Aldo Leopold, American Conservationist - In 1949 Sand County Almanac: And Sketches Here and There was published. The book helped shape the environmental movement. Although it went largely unnoticed for over 20 years, a paperback edition became a best-seller when it was published in the 1970s. It continues to be one of the world's best-selling natural history books. (from Writer's Almanac).
