This small Eastern Box turtle was crossing the entrance road to Blue Spruce Park on its way to the stream valley below. We moved it off the road in the direction it was headed so that it would be safe. Box turtles seems to anticipate rain and are often out and about right before a rain storm. About 30 minutes after we saw this one it started to rain very hard.
A panoramic photo of Blue Spruce Park taken on May 29, 2015. On Fridays our crew does the final touch up for the weekends to make sure things look good.
Heavy rains had this snapping turtle on the move on this early May evening. Snapping turtles on land are very feisty and should be given a great deal of respect. This one was particularly feisty and took several lunges at us while we photographed it.
