One of the perils of building a trail on a floodplain is the threat of occasional flooding or in this case an occasional ice jam. The Blairsville Riverfront Trail is located on the flood control area for the Conemaugh Dam which is located seven miles downstream. As water is backed up in the dam from time to time it reaches the upper limits of the flood contral area in Blairsville.
