We are often asked about these 'fountains' in the North Branch of Blacklick Creek near the Eliza Furnace. They are the result of bore holes drilled into the underlying coal mine. As the water in the mine pool rises the fountain height gets higher and higher. The boreholes were installed by the PA DEP to release the mine water here instead of in the basements of several nearby homes.
